Johnny Kendall Roberts was sworn in last Tuesday night as a Bassfield Town Alderman at the monthly town meeting.

Former Alderman Lance Garner resigned his position effective September 1, 2015, due to moving outside of Bassfield city limits.

The qualifying deadline for the position was September 30, with a special election to be held October 20.

Mississippi Code states if only one candidate has qualified, no special election is necessary.

Roberts was the only qualifying candidate and was sworn in by Bassfield City Attorney Redgie Blackledge.

Roberts is the pastor at Bassfield Baptist Church.
