Only 14 percent of the eligible electorate showed up at the polls to cast a ballot on Tuesday in the special election for the Post One Constable race.
The official tally is in for the race with Zack Jackson winning with 386 votes. His opponent, James Allen Allday received 239 votes. Both candidates ran on the Democratic ticket.
Jackson was the winner in eight of the ten precincts eligible to vote within Post One. Allday secured more votes in Bassfield 31 and Bassfield 32 than Jackson.
Judge Prentiss Harrell arrived at the Jeff Davis County Courthouse on Wednesday for a swearing-in ceremony for Jackson. “It is honorable job to hold the public trust,” said Judge Harrell.
