Concrete was poured on Saturday for the new hanger to be built at Prentiss Regional Airport. Casablance Construction was awarded the construction contract for the building that will hold four airplanes.

“We are really pleased that they have subcontracted with local contractors on some of the work,” said county engineer Les Dungan at Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

The job will be financed by Airport Improvement Project funds with 90 percent or $353,485 being paid from federal monies, five percent or $19,638 being paid by the state, and a five percent match ($19,638) from the county and the town of Prentiss equallly. The board voted to approve payment of the county’s portion which was $9,819.

“We have a really nice airport,” said Dungan. “There is a desire to extend the runway to accommodate larger planes and that will be the focus of the next project.”
