Hubert DeLanio Durr

Mr. Hubert DeLanio Durr, 79, died November 17, 2013, at his home in rural Jefferson Davis County. Services for Mr. Durr were held on November 23  at the North Silver Creek MB Church in New Hebron, with Pastor Jessie Holloway of Outreach Revival Center officiating. Interment was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary, LLC in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Durr was the son of the late Willie Durr and the late Lovie Mae Hartzog Durr of New Hebron. At an early age, he joined the Oak Grove Baptist Church in New Hebron, and remained a member until his death. Mr. Durr was reared and educated in the Jefferson Davis County area, attending both Oak Grove School and Prentiss Institute, prior to working much of his adult life as a farmer, boilermaker, and as a foreman at Grand Gulf Nuclear Power Plant.

Mr. Durr married the former Aline Donaldson of Prentiss, and to this 56-year union seven children were born. Mr. Durr was a devote family man that received great joy from his grand and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Durr’s survivors include his wife, Aline D. Durr; two sons, Leon Durr of Prentiss, and Herbert (Sheila) Durr of Hattiesburg; five daughters, Queen Durr and Pamela (William) Armstrong of Prentiss, Annecia Durr, Aletha (Eric) Smith, both of Austin, TX, and Tomeka (Joe) Wiley of Biloxi; two sisters, Ruby Walker of Prentiss and Nellie (Willam) Hawthorne of Chicago, IL; one brother, Ponce (Eva) Durr of Seattle, WA; one sister-in-law, Fannie Mae Durr of Prentiss; two brothers-in-law, Edgar Jackson of Prentiss, and Levon (Barbara) Donaldson of Washington, DC; 29 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
