Luella D. McDuffey

Funeral services were held December 14, 2013, at North Pleasant Hill MB Church, New Hebron, for Mrs. Luella Dampeer McDuffey, age 83, who died December 5 at her residence. Rev. Moses Johnson, pastor, officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Luella McDuffey was born to the late Simon and Macie Armstrong Dampeer in Prentiss. She was the first of six children born.
She joined Galilee MB Church at an early age and enjoyed singing in the choir. She later joined North Pleasant Hill MB Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, member of the senior choir, leader of the youth choir and member of the home mission. She remained until her health failed.
She received her education in Jefferson Davis County Schools. She was married to the late James McDuffey, Sr. and to this union eight children were born. Mrs. McDuffey was employed at Edward Hyman and New Hebron Manufacturing Companies.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Jrris and Harvest McDuffey; step-daughter, Lula LeJay; great-granddaughter, Jillian Rhodes; two brothers, James and O.D. Dampier; sister, Anniebell Buckley.
She is survived by children, Navlean (Daniel) Pittman, Lartha (Evangelist) Rhodes, Alvin (Alice) McDuffey, James (Evelyn) McDuffey, Jr., LauRia (Quinnetta) McDuffey, Lucille (Alexander) Cosby; daughter-in-law, Carolyn McDuffey; son-in-law, Adam LeJay; sister, Mazzie L. Drones; brother, Leon Dampier; three sisters-in-law, Ella Jane, Florine McDuffey and Kerri Dampier; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
