Funeral services were held January 1, 2014, at Whitesand Baptist Church in Prentiss for Mr. Gerald McRaney, age 85, of New Hebron, who passed away on December 29 at JDCH Extended Care Facility in Prentiss. Interment followed at Whitesand Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Charles Burnham and Rev. Valton Douglas officiated. Pallbearers were Brent Daniel, Clay Smith, Alex Morgan, Brian Dickson, Will Daniels and Ray Cook.

Mr. Eddie Gerald McRaney was born on October 21, 1928, in the Lone Star community of Covington County. He was the son of Eddie McRaney and Lucille Holley McRaney. He worked at jobs in the oilfield for more than 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a member of Whitesand Baptist Church.

Mr. McRaney is survived by his wife of 64 years, Abbie Fortenberry McRaney of New Hebron; his daughters, Diane Daniel of Oakvale and Kathy Smith of New Hebron; his son Jerry McRaney of Columbia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; and brother, Reese McRaney of New Hebron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.
