Hershel W. Fortenberry

Funeral services were held December 28, 2013, at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss for Mr. Hershel W. Fortenberry, age 80, of Jackson, who passed away on December 25 at MS Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. Interment followed at New Hebron Cemetery in New Hebron. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.
Rev. Terry Phillips officiated. Pallbearers were Andy Quinn, Berry Quinn, Mark Berry, David Fortenberry, Zack Terrill, David Sykes, Mike Brody and Danny Daniels.
Mr. Hershel W. Fortenberry was born on March 19, 1933, in Columbia, MS. He was the son of Van Fortenberry and Lucille Baker Fortenberry. He was a cattle farmer and owned his own trucking business for more than 40 years. He was one of the first cattlemen to truck cattle from Mississippi to California.
Hershel W. Fortenberry was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the MS Cattleman’s Association, the MS Trucking Association and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Fortenberry was known as a true Southern Gentleman.
Mr. Fortenberry is survived by his wife, Lanelle Fortenberry of Jackson; son, Mike Fortenberry (Melinda) of Jackson; daughter, Kay Brody of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Lauren Terrill (Zack) and Ryan Brody. He was preceded in death by his parents.
