Want to learn more about the Affordable Care Act, more popularly known as Obamacare?
Karl Twyner, a certified agent with Humana Medical, will present an overview of the Affordable Care Act on Thursday evening, January 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Prentiss Public Library.
“It is important that all citizens of Jefferson Davis County who do not have major medical insurance and are not on Medicaid be enrolled by March 31 or face tax penalties accordingly,” said Twyner who will bring enrollment packets to start the process of enrollment.
Humana is the only company that can write policies for Jefferson Davis County. Only two insurance companies — Magnolia Health Plan (owned by Centene) and Humana — are participating in the Mississippi insurance marketplace. Humana is selling policies in 40 Mississippi counties and Magnolia is available in 46 counties. Only people living in Hinds, Madison, Rankin and DeSoto counties will have a choice of two insurers.
According to the government’s website, www.healthcare.gov, the new Health Insurance Marketplace helps uninsured people find health coverage. Those who currently have coverage, whether through Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, a job-based plan, COBRA, retiree coverage, a plan you purchased yourself, TRICARE, VA coverage or some other kind of health coverage do not have to participate in the health insurance marketplace or exchange.
What should people bring to the Thursday night presentation? “Bring all their questions,” says Twyner who will answer questions and set up a time to discuss one-on-one eligibility. Twyner says his presentation is designed for middle class, hardworking individuals. “We’ve got our work cut out for us if we’re going to get people enrolled by March 31,” says Twyner.
