A dedicated member of the Bassfield Fire Department will be missed by many. Jessi Lynn Sanford, 19, of Bassfield died Monday morning, January 13, 2014 from complications due to liver cancer.

According to Fire Chief Bill Matthews, Sanford had recently taken the fire certification course. “She came in three year ago and wanted to join the fire department,” said Matthews. “At the time we did not have a junior fire department program, so I told her she had to wait until she was 18 years old. On her 18^th birthday, she walked in the door.”

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at New Hope Baptist Church in Seminary.
