For a kid to be on the practice field by 6:00 a.m. during summer break is what it takes to win a state championship according to Coach Lance Mancuso of the Bassfield Yellowjackets, who spoke at Monday night’s school board meeting.

“It’s that kind of commitment that has won us three state championships,” said Mancuso. Four team captains were in attendance who all played in post-season exhibition games. C J Moore and Curtis Mikell played in the North vs. South All-Star game. Cornell Armstrong and Alvin Moore played in the MS/AL All Star Game. Twin, CJ and Alvin, have also been accepted to play at Ole Miss after graduation.

The team, along with cheerleaders and the junior football team and coaches, will be honored at an annual banquet on to be held on March 15 at the Thad Cochran Center on the University of Southern Mississippi campus.

“This will also be the night the team receives their championship rings,” said Mancuso, “That is, if we raise the money to buy them.”
