Funeral services were held January 16, 2014, at Prentiss Baptist Church in Prentiss, for Mr. Terry Brinson, age 80, of Prentiss, who passed away on January 11 at UMMC in Jackson. Interment followed at Lowland Cemetery in Bassfield. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Ben James officiated. Pallbearers were Harper Brinson, Scott Brinson Kim Hathorn, Dr. Randy Hathorn, Kyle Highstreet, Ryan Highstreet and Robbie Weeks. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. James Russell Dumas, James H. Everitt, Jr., Buddy Steverson, the Ingram Foster Sunday School Class and the deacons of Prentiss Baptist Church.

Mr. Terry Alton Brinson was born on September 28, 1933, in Prentiss. He was the son of Alton F. Brinson and Velma Broome Brinson. After graduation from high school he attended Mississippi Southern College, which later became the University of Southern Mississippi, and played on their football team in 1952 and 1953.

He worked as the plant manager of New Hebron Manufacturing for more than 20 years and later worked with KLH Industries as their human resource manager, retiring in 1996. He served as an alderman for the Town of Prentiss for two terms. For most of his life he attended Prentiss UMC and in later years moved his membership to Prentiss Baptist Church, to be with his wife, Jimmie Layne. He was a deacon at Prentiss Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for a number of years.

Mr. Brinson’s survivors include his wife, Jimmie Layne Brinson of Prentiss; daughters, Terri Lynn Ryan (Eddie) of St. Francisville, LA, and Kippy Smith (Wayne) of Prentiss; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Hector Brinson of Prentiss.

His parents, his sister Dorothy Manton and a grandson preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prentiss Baptist Church, Prentiss United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association of MS.
