2014 winter storm shuts down Jeff Davis County

Tractors and dump trucks were no match for slippery roads as freezing rain, sleet and snow packed the streets. “We got so much sleet,” said Supervisor Corky Holliman. “That’s what put us in such bad shape.” Expected accumulation of snow/sleet: approximately 2-4 inches.

Karen Sanford / The Prentiss Headlight – It was a winter wonderland in Prentiss this week as freezing rain, sleet and snow blanketed the area.
Tractors and dump trucks were no match for slippery roads as freezing rain, sleet and snow packed the streets. “We got so much sleet,” said Supervisor Corky Holliman. “That’s what put us in such bad shape.”
Travelers are advised to only drive in an emergency. Ice will continue to melt on Wednesday afternoon, but an expected Wednesday night hard freeze will still make roads treacherous.
