Cecil Glenn Lewis

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Pearl River Valley MB Church, Monticello, for Mr. Cecil Glenn Lewis, 58, who died January 24 at Oasis Rehabilitation and Health in Yazoo City. Rev. Michael Graves officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Cecil Lewis was born to the late Leo and Gloria Evans Lewis in Monticello. He was a member of Oak Grove MB Church and later joined Rocky Branch MB Church before becoming a member of Pearl River Valley MB Church.

He attended Monticello High School where he played basketball and football. He was the first black quarterback at Monticello High School, graduating in 1973. He attended Texas Southern University and Alcorn University.

He was married to Gloria Norwood Lewis and to this union, four children were born.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He is survived by parents, Leo, Sr. and Gloria Evans Lewis; four daughters, Brandy Kaye Lewis of Monticello, Jasmine (Roderick) Haynes of Jackson, Twyla Taylor of Memphis, TN, Sha-Quandra Brooks of South Carolina; two sons, LeSamuel Lewis of Monticello, Cecil Lewis of Hattiesburg; four brothers, Mitchell (Kathy) Lewis of Silver Creek, Leo Lewis, Jr. of Monticello, Marvin (Charlotte) Lewis of Silver Creek, Derrick Smith of Chicago, IL; one sister, Shirley Ann Brown of Oakland, CA; six grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
