There were some tense moments in the Bassfield High auditorium as students representing Carver Elementary, J.E. Johnson Elementary, Prentiss High, Bassfield High and Prentiss Christian School vied for top place in the Jeff Davis County School District by out spelling each other. Spectators collectively held their breath silently willing each student to spell correctly. Fourteen students began the event but in the end there could only be one winner.
