Tony Bagley

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 12, 2014, at Santee Baptist Church in Bassfield, for Rev. Tony Bagley, age 67, of Collins, who passed away on February 8 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Interment followed at Santee Baptist Church Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Mike Clark, Rev. Steve McAuder, Rev. Lynn Martin, Dr. Rene’ Freret, Rev. Brad Roberts, Rev. A. C. Barber and Rev. Valton Douglas officiated. Pallbearers were Kevin Davis, Brad Roberts, Junior McCray, Tony Reid, Kendall King, Paul Morgan, Ronnie Blackwell and Wilmer McCray.  Honorary pallbearers were Lindsey Hutchinson, Ray Ray Dyess, Earl Roberts, James Townsend, Pedro McRaney and all of his fellow ministers.

Rev. Walter Tony Bagley was born on August 26, 1946, in Marion County, Mississippi. He was the son of W.L. Bagley, Sr. and Gladys Coulter Bagley. After high school, he attended Jones Junior College majoring in Forestry. He worked as a logging superintendent for Delta Pine Plywood Company for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In 1976, he founded Santee Baptist Church in Bassfield, and remained the pastor there until his death. He was known as a “Pastor’s Pastor” and ministered to everyone he came into contact with.

Rev. Bagley is survived by his wife, Mavis Worthy Bagley of Collins; his son, Daniel Bagley of Collins, MS; his daughter, Mary Ellen Gibson of Laurel; his brothers, W.L. Bagley, Jr. and Worth Bagley both of Collins, and his sister, Dean Daughdrill of Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ward Bagley.
