On March 5, 2014, the Asset Development Division of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) provided asset mapping services to the communities of Prentiss and Bassfield.

The service consisted of a group of experts from MDA, other government agencies, universities, community colleges, and private entities.

The group divided into teams and then visited Bassfield and Prentiss for a day to inventory unique assets.

The teams collected photographs, GPS coordinates, addresses, and descriptions of the assets found in the communities.

This information will be added to MDA’s web site which showcases Mississippi’s unique assets.

After the data collection, teams collectively discussed their findings in order to recommend suggestions to the communities as to how assets can be utilized to improve quality and/or economic gain.

At days end, the group met with community leaders (Mayor Charley Dumas, Mayor Pat Courtney, Ben Hamby and Jerlene White) to share a preliminary report. The communities will be presented with a detailed report in the coming weeks.

“It is our hope that the community is able to develop a plan of action to implement some of the teams’ recommendations,” said Tina Blue, Project Manager  with MDA.

Within the final report MDA will provide information concerning resources to help the communities reach their development goals.
