George Byron Garrett Jr., age 86 of Silver Creek, died March 7, 2014, at his residence in Silver Creek, MS. Funeral services were heldĀ March 9 at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello, MS. Burial was in Monticello United Methodist Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home of Monticello, MS was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Garrett was born in Lawrence County, MS. His hobbies were hunting and fishing, and being with his family. Mr. Garrett served in the United States Air Force during the Berlin Airlift, which saved hundreds of thousands of lives. He found the most pleasure in a hard days work, and he enjoyed gardening, and football, and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan.

Mr. Garrett was preceded in death by his father, George Byron Garrett; his mother, Ruby Little Garrett; and brothers, Jessie Willard Garrett and Joseph E. Garrett.

His survivors include his wife of 64 years, Margaret Davis Garrett, Silver Creek; sons, Phillip Garrett of Mobile, AL, Steve Garrett of Silver Creek, Chuck Garrett of Monticello; daughters, Lu Ann Garrett Hutchinson, Silver Creek, Susie Garrett, Bay St. Louis, Julie Garrett Barnes, Silver Creek; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mattie Florence “Punch” Smith, Brookhaven.
