County mourns loss of Tax Assessor Sue Shivers Worthy

The county was shocked and saddened by the sudden loss of our tax assessor/collector Mrs. Sue Shivers Worthy on Sunday afternoon due to a massive stroke.

The supervisors offered condolences and held prayer Monday morning with Mrs. Worthy’s co-workers at the tax assessor’s office.Sue Worthy clr WEB

Sue Shivers Worthy was appointed and sworn into office June 26, 2001, after the untimely death of previous tax assessor Kathryn “Molly” Barnes.

She was elected for three consecutive terms following her fulfillment of Barnes’ unexpired term.

“Sue was always so full of life and called everyone friend.  She was very dedicated to her work and enjoyed working for the people of Jefferson Davis County.  She will be greatly missed by the Board of Supervisors,” said Supervisor Corky Holli- man.

The tax assessor’s office will be closed Thursday.

Visitation for Mrs. Worthy will be Wednesday. March 26, 2014, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss, MS.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Saulters Moore Funeral Chapel in Prentiss.

Interment will follow at Bassfield Cemetery.

The supervisors will hold a special meeting Friday morning to discuss an appointment to fill her unexpired term which would have concluded at the end of this year.
