The Town of Prentiss has received a grant to paint both water towers over a span of 150 days.

Each tank will take approximately 40-45 days each to drain, prepare, and paint, depending on the weather.

The town will be operating on one tank during the time it takes to complete the entire project.

The John Street tank was taken off system Saturday.

Mayor Charley Dumas and the Board of Aldermen have asked that the residents on the town water system please conserve water during the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. during this process.

“We would like to thank the residents in advance and greatly appreciate their anticipated cooperation while we work to improve their water system,” said Mayor Dumas.

The town has scaled back their fire hydrant flushing program and the sale of water to commercial haulers as well as restricted the times for those activities.

“We would ask if anyone has sprinkler systems on timers, please check that these timers are not set to go off during these crucial hours,” said town water operator Corky Holliman.

“We do not anticipate a problem as it is recommended that most lawns, gardens and flower beds be watered in the mornings.”

“We understand this process will run into the hot, dry summer months,  but if we all work together we can get through this and in the end have upgraded water tanks and an improved water system which is positive for our community,” Holliman added.
