BHS wins first ever track & field state championship

Bassfield High School’s track and field team won its first ever overall state championship, and set a new state 2A record in the process.

The team competed in several track and field events during the meet which was held in Pearl, MS, Saturday.

Jamel Peters participated in the long jump and high jump.

James Hinton finished 3rd in the 1600 meter run and 2nd in the 800 meter run.

Alvin Moore finished 1st  in the 100 meter run with a time of 10:81.

Alvin Moore also finished 1st in the 200 meter run with a time of 22:21.

Calvin Moore finished 2nd in the 200 meter run with a time of 22:34.

Kameron Williams finished 4th in the 400 meter run.

The 4 X 100 relay team finished 1st and set a new class 2A State record with a time of 42:11.  Members of the relay team are Curt Mikel, Cornell Armstrong, Calvin Moore, and Alvin Moore.

The 4 X 400 relay team finished 2nd with a time of 3:33.25. Members are Kameron Williams, Dontario Magee, Xavier Harper, and Calvin Moore. The track team is coached by Charlie James.

Jolissa Fairley also won a state champion title in shot put while representing the Lady Jackets.  She is coached by Sylvia Hall.
