Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Galilee MB Church for Mr. Madison (Mat) Armstrong, age 77, who died Wednesday, April 23 at his residence. Rev. Levester Sutton officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Madison Armstrong was born to the late Garfield and Winnie Bell Wilks Armstrong. He attended high school at Prentiss Institiute.
At a young age, he became a member of Galilee MB Church where he was a trustee, treasurer and president of the Brotherhood. He was married to Melvia Jean Frelix and to this union two children were born, Falana and Travis Armstrong.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Armstrong; two brothers, Robert Lee Armstrong and Willie Wilks.
He is survived by stepmother, Iola Armstrong of New Hebron; three children, Falana (Calvin) Green of Wesson, Travis (Denise) Armstrong of San Antonio, TX, and Arneetria Bourne of Hattiesburg; two grandchildren, Farrod and Sabria; one aunt, Jessie Armstrong of Prentiss; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Wilks and Mae Etta Armstrong both of Prentiss; many other relatives and friends.
