Ida Mae Bridges

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Whitfield Bridges, of Hattiesburg, were held at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Prentiss on Saturday, May 24, 2014. Interment followed at Prentiss Cemetery. Mrs. Bridges, age 83, passed away at Bedford Care Nursing Home on May 22. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.
Dr. David Williamson and Dr. Nathan Barber officiated. Pallbearers were Joe Bridges, Jerry Bridges, W. G. Bridges, Harold Bridges, Leslie Bridges, James Smith, C.A. Smith, Wayne Smith, Richard Merchant and Michael Herrin.
Mrs. Bridges was born July 19, 1930, in Orange, TX. She spent most of her life in the Whitesand Community of Jefferson Davis County and in Prentiss until she moved to Hattiesburg in 2006. She was a cosmetologist for over 50 years. More recently she worked as a hostess for Moore Funeral Service in Prentiss and Hattiesburg. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Hattiesburg but cherished her memories of Prentiss Baptist Church and Whitesand Baptist Church, where she served as church hostess for many years. She directed over 50 weddings for family and friends and was an avid and accomplished quilter.
Mrs. Bridges is survived by her son and his wife, Karon and Tricia Bridges of Hattiesburg; her grandson and family, Kary, Katie, Heath, Ellie and Meg Bridges of Oxford; her granddaughter and family, Kami, Josh and Will Jones of Hattiesburg; her brother, Frankie Shedlock of Texarkana, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Bridges; a grandson, Heath Larue Bridges; her parents, J.W. and Winifred Whitfield and Minnie Shedlock; two sisters, Dot McLaughlin and Joyce Herrin; and a brother, Barney Whitfield.
