Run-off election June 24

Jefferson Davis County voters will have to return to the polls one more time  before the general election in November.

There will be a run-off election June 24 between Thad Cochran and  Chris McDaniel for Senate on the Republican side.

There will also be a run-off between Douglas MacAurthur (Doug) Magee  and Dennis C. Quinn on the Democratic side for Congress.

Voters will be required to vote the same ticket they voted in the June 4 election.

If you did not vote in the June 4 election, you may choose which ticket to vote on.

Absentee ballots will be available for walk-in voting until Saturday, June 21, at 12 p.m.

In the June 4 primary in Jefferson Davis County, Douglas MacArthur (Doug) Magee carried the Democratic congressional ticket in Jeff Davis County with 59.69 percent of the vote.  His opponent for the run-off, Dennis C. Quinn, received 26.31 percent of the county vote.

On the Republican side, Chris McDaniel won the county with 60.34 percent of the votes, while run-off opponent Thad Cochran received 38.62 percent of the vote.

A sample ballot will be in next week’s paper.  Polls will be open June 24 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
