Multi-county high speed chase ends in JDC

On Firday, June 13, the Mississippi Highway Patrol was conducting a driver’s license check point on Highway 541 in Simpson County.

Two men in a Mercedes stopped at the checkpoint.  The troopers could smell a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Troopers ordered the driver to pull over, but the driver sped off leading the troopers on a high speed chase.

Once the vehicle entered Jefferson Davis County, the JDC Sheriff’s Department assisted Captain Steven Shows and other Mississippi Highway Patrol with the pursuit.

The chase ended at the intersection of North Carson Road and East St. Stephens when the driver of the vehicle lost control and ran off the road.

The suspects were apprehended and an estimated 200 lbs. of marijuana was found in duffel bags in the trunk of the vehicle.

The suspects claim to be from Austin, TX.  They were charged with possession of Marijuana with intent to distribute, felony fleeing and DUI.
