George Calvert Taylor

Funeral services were held June 28, 2014, at Citronelle Church of God, Citronelle, Alabama, for Mr. George Calvert Taylor, 76, who died June 18 at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg. Rev. Betty Turner, officiated with interment following in the Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Citronelle, AL. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. George Taylor was born to the late Edgar Taylor and Cora Shines Hawkins. He was a member of the Citronelle Church of God. He was a graduate of Rosa Lott School and served in the United States Army.

He was a long-time resident of Chicago, Illinois. He was employed for a while at Cook County Hospital and retired from Chicago Board of Education. He married Ruthie Evans Taylor in 1969. To this union two children were born.

He was preceded in death by his sister Peggy Turner and brother Mark Hawkins.

He is survived by wife, Ruthie; children, Terence and Tresa of Prentiss, Eric and Erica of Chicago, IL; sisters, Edrice Polk of Prentiss, Betty (Dwight) Patterson of North Carolina, Jo Anne Finkel of New York, Frankie (Brian) Blevins of Virginia, Geralee (Louis) Ducreay, Terry Williams of Alabama and Scottie (Anthony) McCarroll of Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Eva (Bobby) Rainge of Georgia, Lana (James) Haliday, Sandress Turner, Natasha (Rev. Anthony) Soles all of Ragland, AL; and one brother-in-law, Marvin (Sherry) Turner of Rialto, CA; 10 grandchildren; goddaughter, Chandra (Richard) Slaughter; many other relatives and friends.
