Baby Ruth Buckley

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Mt. Carmel MB Church for Mrs. Baby Ruth Lockhart Buckley, 77, who died Saturday, August 9, at Arrington Living Center, Collins. Elder James Harrell officiated with interment following in the Mt. Carmel Church of God in Christ Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Baby Ruth Buckley was the 11th child born to the late Needom and Millie Jones Lockhart in Jefferson Davis County. She joined Mt. Carmel Church of God in Christ at an early age. She received her education at Gray’s School located in the Clem Community.

She was married to John Henry Buckley and to this union 12 children were born. She had a love for children and opened her home to the youth in the community and she started the Ponderosa Wildcats’ Softball Team.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Rosie Brown, Mary Walker, Annie Flowers, Iris Turner and Lillie Richardson; three brothers, N.L. Lockhart, S.L. Lockhart and Johnnie Lockhart; one granddaughter, Stacey Fairley.

She is survived by brothers, Junior Lockhart of Lake Providence, LA, Joe Lockhart of Sun City, AZ; sisters, Betty Strickland of Mt. Olive, Bessie Berkhalter of Prentiss, and Edith Lockhart of Rockford, IL; devoted companion, Thurman Pittman; 12 children, John (Liz) Buckley and Henry Buckley both of Moss Point, Barbara Buckley of Prentiss, Myannaice Griffin of Jackson, Mary (Buford) Drummond of Bassfield, Sara Simpson of Oviedo, FL, Millie (Willie) Barnes of Powder Springs, GA, Alice (Jasper) Price of Collins, Troy (Annie) Buckley, Melissa (Erwin) Sullivan and Jamie Buckley all of Prentiss, Michael (Sheletta) Buckley of Florence; 43 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
