John was the son of William Fay King and Bessie McGinney King. He was born in Archibald, Louisiana, on August 29, 1936. He was a millwright for a number of years. He retired in 1997 after 20 years of service with Farm Bureau Insurance Agency. He became an ordained minister in 1977 and pastored in Jefferson Davis, Smith, Lamar, Covington and Jones counties. He was a member of Victory Tabernacle Church in Columbia.
John’s passion was his relationship with and his love for the Lord and he did his best to make sure you knew his Savior Jesus Christ. He always made sure the Bible was read at all family gatherings. He had a most kind and humble heart. We are sad for his loss here on earth but grateful that we know he is in Heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bonseal “Bonnie” King of Carson; daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Lynn (Doug) Thornton of Collins; two sons, William Elisha King of Wiggins and Anthony “Tony” (Eva) King of Athens, AL; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Floyd of Mobile, AL, and Jimmie Faye Chancy of El Paso, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruby Mabe.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Batson Children’s Home in Jackson or the American Cancer Society.
