Johnny Lee Brister, Sr.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Prentiss High School Gymnasium for Mr. Johnny Lee “Bull” Brister, Sr., age 72, who died Friday, December 26, at Southwest Hospital in McComb. Rev. Jesse J. Holloway officiated with interment following in the Green Grove MB Church Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnny Lee Brister was born to the late John T. and Katie Pecola Brister in McComb, MS. He graduated from Burland High in McComb in 1963. He furthered his education and attended Prentiss Institute and Mississippi Valley State.

After graduation, he accepted a job at New Hymn in Pinola. Later he accepted a job at J.E. Johnson Middle School in Prentiss as a coach, physical education teacher and various other duties in the school system.

While teaching at Prentiss he met Edna Poole who later became his wife of 44 years. He was a pillar in the community and was always willing to help kids by teaching them various sports. He ran the Boys Club, provided softball tournaments and many other events throughout the community.

He is survived by wife, Edna Brister; three sons, John (LaSonya) Brister of Columbus, GA, Johnny (Yolande) Brister of Prentiss, John Wayne Barnes of Hattiesburg; goddaughter, Ruth Williams of Prentiss; three grandchildren, Denota Brister of Columbus, GA, Taylor Brister of Prentiss and La’Porsha Brister of Columbus, GA; four brothers, Barry Brister of McComb, Allen (JoJean) Brister of Summit, Ray (Diane) Brister of Detroit, MI; two sisters-in-law, Laura Poole and Ida Mae Poole both of Prentiss; eight brothers-in-law, Andre (Lucille) Poole, Patrick (Angela) Poole both of Prentiss, Chad (Carolyn) Poole of Hattiesburg, Jerry (Yolanda) Poole of Houston, TX, Charles (Patricia) Poole of St. Matthew, SC., Michael (Gloria) Daniels of Forrest, Authur (Alice) Daniels of Monticello; special friends, Coach Alvin Gray, Johnny C. Hartzog, Melvin Norwood, Sonny Addison, Tim Williams, Jerry Ball and Daniel Brown; many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Brister; four sisters, Christine Tate, Mildred Tobias, Minnie Dinelli and Margie Faust; one brother, J.C. Brister.

Betty Robbins Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Robbins were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Society Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Young officiating. Interment followed in the Society Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins, age 75, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, at the Forrest General Hospital. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. The Robbins family received friends one hour before the funeral service, beginning at noon, Tuesday, at Society Hill Baptist Church. Pallbearers included Kelley LeNormand, Cymantha Shellenberger, Mason Robbins, Jenna Robbins, Frank Vice and Frank Vice Jr. Betty Robbins was born on June 6, 1949, in Magee, Mississippi to Walter R. and Margaret Jones Bishop. Mrs. Robbins was a long-time resident of Carson. She and her husband would go on to raise a happy family of six children that would multiply over the years with the addition of in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Robbins loved the country life and will be remembered for not only growing a yard full of beautiful flowers, but also a vegetable garden of which she fed her family. An animal lover, she also had dogs, chickens and hogs over the years. Mrs. Robbins was a member of Society Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Margaret Bishop, her husband, Kenneth Terrell Robbins Sr; her daughter, Pamela Robbins; sisters, Patsy Holden, Margaret  Coble, Linda Hester and her brother, Richard Bishop. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Billie Jo Williamson of Prentiss; sons, Kenny Robbins Jr. (Kathy) of Carson, Mikell Robbins (Kelley) of Palestine, Texas, John Robbins (Nicole) of Sumrall, Daniel Robbins, (Tanya) of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Ray Bishop (Nancy) of Magee and her sister, Myrtis Craig (Ed) of Rossville, Georgia. Mrs. Robbins also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
