Maxine Griffith Newsome

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Macedonia MB Church, Mt. Olive, for Mrs. Maxine Griffith Newsome, age 67, who died Tuesday, February 3, at her residence. Rev. Clifton Preston officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Maxine Newsome was born to the late Mack Griffith and Genola Walker. She was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from J.E. Johnson High School in 1966. She married Johnnie Newsome and to this union no children were born.

She joined Macedonia MB Church at an early age. She moved her membership to Silver Creek MB Church for a few years after marriage and later returned to Macedonia MB Church where she was on the Mission Board, willing worker, and Pastor’s Aide where she served faithfully until her death.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Levery Griffith.

She is survived by husband, Johnnie Newsome of New Hebron; three daughters, Monica (Bernard) Womack of Prentiss, Sharon (Erndaryl) Jaynes of Magee, and Aundrea (G.I.) Burkett of Prentiss; two sons, Jerry Rankin of Magee and Aundra Williams of Prentiss; one step-daughter, Margie (Terry) Jones of Newport, VA; six step-sons, Patrick Lee of Erie, PA, Michael (Tracey) Newsome of Huntsville, AL, Mark (Chante) Newsome of Washington, DC, Marshall (Angela) Newsome of High Point, NC, Maximillion (Kim) Newsome of Jackson, Toby (Shan) Hodges of Taylorsville; aunt, Veola Griffith of Prentiss; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Minnie Griffith of Prentiss and Genetta (Darrell) Shields of Magee; four brothers, W.T. (Dewayne) Griffith, George (Arlena) Fuches and Aaron Funches all of Prentiss, Ricky (Linda) Funches of Magee; seven sisters-in-laws, Effie Newsome of Berkley, CA, Essie J. Hall of Prentiss, Estella Newsome of Atlanta, GA, Troy Fairley of Hattiesburg, Dora (Eddie) Hayes of Atlanta, GA, Marvia (Byran) Bolton of Atlanta, GA, and Marilyn (Johnny) Dixon of Jackson; three brothers-in-law, Hulon (Mary) Newsome of Port Gibson, Charles (Jerri) Newsome of Chicago, IL, Jackie (Mary) Newsome of Prentiss; seven step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
