Funeral services were held February 26, 2015, at Johnson Funeral Home for Mr. Lavon Reed, 79,who died February 22 at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg. Rev. Minor officiated with interment following in the Prentiss First Baptist Church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lavon Reed was born to the late Sam Reed and the late Priscilla Butler. He was a longtime resident of San Francisco, California, before retiring and moving back home to Prentiss. He joined Hollisday Creek at an early age and attended school at Prentiss Institute. He later joined the U.S. Army and was resided in San Francisco after his military career. He was owner and operator of Reed’s Plumbing. He later became a licensed truck driver and traveled to many states.
He met his first wife, Johnny Ruth Butler while living in Prentiss, and later married Alice Reed and later Cardella Jones.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Almay Bullard, Luther Hall and Catherine Holloway.
He is survived by six children, Levorn Reed, John Reed, Debra Reed, Darrell Reed, Benita Lane and Nicole Reed; siblings, Virginia Polk, Ledrew Butler Jr. and Prince Butler; 21 grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
