Funeral services were held Monday, April 13, 2015, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home, in Prentiss, for Homer Hemphill Holloway, Sr., age 74, of Prentiss, who passed away Thursday, April 9, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Interment followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Saulters Moore Funeral Home of Prentiss was in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. John. E. Barnes, III, and Rev. Vernon Terrell officiated. Pallbearers were Chance Holloway, Seth Holloway, Chandler Holloway, Glenn Holloway, Keith Holloway, William Hansen, Greg Holloway and Ethan Lee. Honorary pallbearers were the men’s morning group at Ward’s of Prentiss.

Homer was born June 3, 1940, to Curtis and Bernice Holloway of Prentiss.

He attended Carson School and played basketball there until its closure in 1957. He then played basketball and football at Prentiss High School, until he graduated in 1959.

Mr. Holloway was a member of the Asbestos Union Local 114 for 20 years. The highlight of his working career was being part owner of a deepwater facility in Pascagoula, MS, with his brother J.L. Working with cows and tending the land was a joy to him, as well as wild game and timber management.

After retirement, he built a mom-and-pop store in Lone Star, MS, to be able to visit daily with friends and family, until he was struck with cancer that he battled for 13 years.

His lifelong desire was to build a family he was proud of. That successful accomplishment is his greatest legacy.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Pat Holloway of Prentiss; two sons, Homer, Jr., (Christi) of Sumrall, and Randy of Prentiss; five grandchildren, Chance, Ashten, Seth, Alexis and Chandler; two sisters, Shirley (James) Lee, Jackie (Bill) Hansen and one brother, J.L. (Diane) Holloway.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Holloway.
