Ora Nell Hooker

Funeral services were held April 18, 2015, at Prentiss First MB Church for Mrs. Ora Nell Solomon Hooker, 67, who died April 13, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson. Rev. Jessie J. Holloway officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ora Nell Hooker was born to the late Elbert “Preacher” and Ora Jane Funchess Solomon in Jefferson Davis County, MS. She relocated to Chicago, Illinois, after completing J.E. Johnson High School in 1966. She met and married Frank Smith and to this union, one child was born. Mrs. Hooker later returned to Mississippi and in 1975, she married Henry “Poochie” Hooker and to this union, one child was born.
Mrs. Hooker served as a nurse at Jeff Davis Community Hospital for over 30 years and later served as administrator for Jeff Davis Extended Care Facility and Haven Hall Nursing Home in Brookhaven. In 2012, she retired for health reasons.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Earl and Bobby Jewel Solomon; two sisters, Uklerzine Solomon Williams and Olivia “Lee” Solomon Magee.
She is survived by husband, Henry Hooker; daughter, Lisa Smith; son, Romonda Hooker; nine grandchildren, Kristi Smith, Kenderick Weathersby, Kayla Smith, O’Kierra Johnson, Daja Hooker, Romonda Hooker, Jr., Syionna Hooker, Jamarion Hooker, Malaysia Hooker; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lonnie Ray Solomon of Duarte, CA, and Elbert (Thelma Sue) Solomon of Americus, GA; two sisters, Eva (James) Edmon of Flowood, and Norma Edgar of Pascagoula; three brothers-in-law, Hollis Hooker and Joe (Hazel) Hooker, both of Prentiss, Robert (Minnie Lee) Hooker of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Washington of Prentiss and Caledonia Solomon of Oakdale, LA; many other relatives and friends.
