Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Greens Creek Baptist Church for Mrs. Ethelrene Smith, 88, of Carson, who died Saturday, March 21, at her residence. Interment was in the Greens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. J.T. Farve and the Rev. Charles Lee Loftin officiated at the services.

She was born to Luther and Hassie Reid McPhail. Following the untimely death of her mother, she was reared by her father’s sister, Carrie Dyess and husband Wash Dyess. A native of Jefferson Davis County, she was homemaker and a member of Melba Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cassie Smith; son, Clark Wayne Smith; daughter, Eva Nell Stringer; two great grandchildren, Christian Holly and Gadget Smith; and two sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwendolyn Smith of Carson; two sons, Thomas Earl Smith (Sharon) of Livingston, Texas; and Joe Stanley Smith (Norean) of Carson; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.

Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
