Willie Earl McCornell

Mr. Willie Earl McCornell, 66, died Saturday May 9, 2015, at the Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Services for Mr. McCornell were held on Saturday, May 16, at South Pleasant Hill MB Church, with Rev. Robert Collins officiating. Interment was in the South Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with Laird Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McCornell was the son of the late Woodie McCornell and the late Annie Thomas McCornell of Coffeeville, AL. At the age of 16, Mr. McCornell moved to Mobile and united with the Mount Hebron MB Church, and remained a member until he moved to Hattiesburg, where he joined the New Testament Church.

Mr. McCornell graduated from Trinty Gardens High School in Mobile, prior to attending Carver State Technical College. As an excellent provider, Mr. McCornell worked for many years at Alabama Dry Docks Shipbuilding, Courtaulds Fibers in Mobile County, Ingalls Shipbuilding, and Monticello Paper Mill.

Mr. McCornell was married to Dorinda Phillips and to this union two daughters were born, prior to his meeting the love of his life and wife Joyce A. Hubbard of Prentiss, and to this union one son was added.

Mr. McCornell’s survivors include his wife, Joyce A. McCornell of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Bridget McCornell Obikoya, and Adrea McCornell, both of Arlington, VA; two sons, Brandon Scott of Mobile, and Kenneth Hubbard of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Evelyn Bright and Alberta Roberson of Alabama; three grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.
