Holley Cochran / The Prentiss Headlight_Young Nathaniel Thornton was busy at the opening of the Farmers' Market in Prentiss Friday. He is the son of Jake and Mary Ann Thornton. The family grows vegetables on their farm just outside Prentiss and will add okra, tomatoes and cucumbers to their selection on Fridays. Nathanel's mom says he is excellent help in the garden. The Farmers’ Market in Prentiss officially opened Friday with several vendors on hand with a variety of goods.

Volunteer Administrators of the Market are Joel and Susan Hoxie. “We really want to get people out and realize they can sell their products,” said Joel.

He encourages citizens and kids that have products to bring them to the market each Friday.

“I think it’s great, said Mary Ann Thornton when asked about the Market. “We were having to go all the way to Hattiesburg to sell our vegetables, so we are happy to have this available right here at home.”

The Farmer’s Market will be open each Friday from 4-7 p.m. For more information call (504)-202-7012.
