A memorial service was held for Mr. Denver Ilance Nelson on June 17, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church in Monticello. Mr. Nelson, 78, of Prentiss, passed away June 13 at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello. He was born August 4, 1936, to Dewitt and Ottis Ballard Nelson. He was retired from the Mississippi State Highway Patrol and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

His parents and one sister, Vonece Thames, preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathryn Parkman Nelson; sons, Dee Nelson and wife Sherry, Chris Jones and wife Tasha; daughter, Sheila Powell and husband Keith; brother, Thomas Nelson; four grandchildren, Matthew Powell, Katie Smithie, Kyleigh Jones, Cass Jones; four great-grandchildren, Anna Belle Smithie, Eli Smithie, Noah Powell, Sadie Powell; and a host of other family members and friends.
