Funeral services were held June 20, 2015, at Progress MB Church, Bassfield, for Mrs. Joyce Ann Nelson Young, 50, who died Friday, June 12, at her residence. Rev. Marcus P. Hull officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Joyce Ann Young was born to the late L.Z. “Red” and Rosie Lee Nelson in Laurel. She attended Bassfield High School and went on to work at Sanderson Farms for several years.

She was preceded in death by son Christopher Young, brother John C. Nelson, niece Tonya Nelson and nephew Brandon Keys.

She joined Progress MB Church early in life. She enjoyed listening to gospel music and spending time with her grandchildren and was a true fan of the movie, “The Color Purple.”

She is survived by companion, Daniel “Dan” Rhodes; one son, Shomari Nelson; two daughters, Christine Nelson and Adrianne Young all of Bassfield; four grandchildren, Nathaniel and Alexius Fairley and Ma’Lysia Young all of Bassfield, Jamari Nelson of Hattiesburg; two sisters, Mollie Nixon and Evon Nelson both of Bassfield; three brothers, Larry (Christina) Nelson of Hattiesburg, Claude Nelson of Collins, and Louis (Eloise) Nelson Sr. of Bassfield; aunt, Annie Mae Fairman of Bassfield; many other relatives and friends
