The Prentiss Headlight / Members of Unity in the Community with Mr. Charles Johnson after young Jevelle Monroe pulled Johnson’s winning ticket for the $500 cash raffle. The fireworks celebration has been rescheduled to September 5.

Members of Unity in the Community met Thursday night to reschedule the Fireworks Celebration originally planned for July 4.

The new date for the event is Saturday, September 5th, from 6 to 9 p.m.  This will be the Saturday before Labor Day, so it is hoped that many of our citizens will be able to come out for this family friendly event.

Food vendors and local talent that had planned to participate in the original event have been very positive about coming to the rescheduled celebration.  Over the next two months, Unity will work to build on what was in place for the 4th to make the Labor Day celebration an even better community event.

Opportunities for Arts & Crafts vendors, as well as anyone who wishes to participate in the performance program, are still available.

Persons interested in setting up a booth may contact Ms. Dianna Hutchinson at 601-508-0590 for more information.  Citizens who would be interested in performing may contact Mrs. Spight at 601-792-2692.

More information about this Labor Day weekend celebration will be communicated in the near future.  Until then, everyone is encouraged to mark their calendars and plan to join us for local fireworks, fellowship, and fun.

A young visitor to our town, Jevelle Monroe, great- grandson of Prentiss resident Mrs. Spight, pulled the winning ticket for the $500.00 cash raffle.  Originally, Jevelle was going to draw for the winner at the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration. Unfortunately, inclement weather forced the popular event to be rescheduled for Labor Day weekend.  Jevelle will be back at his home in Wisconsin by then, and members of Unity in the Community wanted the raffle winner announced before the rescheduled celebration, so Jevelle did the drawing on Friday, July 10th.

The winning raffle ticket picked belonged to Charles Johnson. Unity would like to thank everyone who supported this raffle which will help fund the fireworks event and thank Jevelle for his assistance.
