Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31, 2015, at South Pleasant Hill MB Church for Mr. Willie Haughey McGowan, 74, who died Sunday, October 25, at Jeff Davis Community Hospital. Rev. Jessie J. Holloway officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haughey McGowan was born to the late Jack and Willie V. McGowan in Prentiss, MS. He was the second of 15 children. He attended Jefferson Davis County Schools. He was married to Lowrey Jean Rogers and to that union five children were born. He worked various jobs including Ingalls Ship Builders, Studebaker, Day & Night Payne, as well as cross country truck driving. He lived in Indiana, Duarte, California, and later returned to Mississippi where he resided until his passing.

He was preceded in death by one brother, George McGowan; one sister, Delia McGowan Hicks; two children, Phyllis McGowan Brooks and Barbara McGowan Scott.

He is survived by four children, Gail (Derek) Harvey, Willie (Denise) Haughey, Jr., Anthony McGowan and Larry Bullock; two brothers, Rundell (Sharon) and Jackie (Willie Mary) McGowan; 10 sisters, Bettye Carter, Bertha Graves, Fleeta (Robert) Loflin, Rose (Ben) Berry, Rachel McGowan, Marilyn Ball-Bennett, Sheila McGowan, Elaine (Frank) Bennett, Loretta Harris and Tonjin (Grover) McGowan; eight grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Sarah McGowan; many other relatives and friends.
