Memorial services were held Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel for Mrs. Mary Evelyn Young Barnes, 51, who died Thursday, November 26, 2015 at Jeff Davis Extended Care Facility.  Rev. Jessie J. Holloway officiated.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Barnes was born to Theodore J. Young and the late Margie N. Young in New Orleans, LA.  She was a member of South Pleasant Hill M. B. Church.

She attended school in Jefferson Davis County and was a 1982 graduate of Prentiss High School.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Tougaloo College and started her career as a social worker.

She is survived by her husband, Elijah Barnes; one son, Terry L. Young; father, Theodore J. Young; three sisters, Antoinette Young of Prentiss, MS, Denise (Travis) Armstrong of San Antonio, TX, Michelle May of Monticello, MS; three brothers, Christopher Young of Silver Creek, MS, Harvey(Shakira) Young of Prentiss, MS and Gregory (Mercedes) Young of Pensacola, FL
