Annie Louise Oaties

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at South Pleasant Hill M. B. Church for Mrs. Annie Louise Myers Oaties, 76, who died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg, MS.  Rev. Eric Dixon officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie L. Oaties was born to the late Hebron and Lucendia Mallard Myers Adams in Jefferson Davis County.  She attended J. E. Johnon and Prentiss Normal Institute and joined Green Grove M. B. Church at an early age and served on the Usher Board and as a member of Choir.  She later united with South Pleasant Hill M. B. Church and served on the Usher Board, Trustee Board as well as the Kitchen Committee.  And she was a member of the Heroines of Jericho #287.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Billy G. Holloway. To this union, five children were born.  She later married the late Mason Oaties, to this union, no children were born.

Mrs. Oaties worked at Edward Hyman for many years and later become a homemaker.  She loved her family, helping those in need, giving encouragement to others as well as sewing and cooking.

She was preceded in death by: one sister, Mary Jones; six brothers, Jessie Lee, Henry James, Willie James, Charles, Willie Louis and John Lee.

Her survivors: devoted friend, Charles Blanchard; children: Kenneth (Cynthia) Myers, Shelia (Johnny) Gholar, Stephanie (Derrick) Gardner, Jeffery (Tabitha) Holloway, all of Prentiss, MS; and Billy (Lisa) Holloway of Mililani, Hawaii; and two special adopted daughters, Josephine Rhodes and Jocelyn Oatis; six siblings, Charlene (Kenneth) Jones of St. Louis, MO, Christine M. Poole, Rochelle (Willie) Holloway, Annette Rhodes, Harold Rhodes and Larry Rhodes all of Prentiss, MS; five sisters-in-law, Annie Lee (Billy) Jones of Gulfport, MS, Mary L. Newton, Teresa Myers, Elaine Williams Myers all of Prentiss, MS and Renee Adams of St. Louis, MO; two brothers-in-law, Charles (Bonnie) McInnis of Prentiss, MS and Johnny (Shirley) Holloway of Baton Rouge, LA; 16 grandchildren: 7 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and special friends, Mary Alice Williams and Patricia Ann Gray.
