V. L. Bridges

V. L. Bridges, age 82, and a resident of Franklinton died early Friday morning January 15, 2016 at his home.  He was a native of Prentiss, MS before moving with his new wife to Franklinton, LA to work at the newly established Southern Natural Gas, where he worked for over 40 years before retiring as the Assistant Superintendent of the Franklinton Division.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War Era during which time he was an artillery gunner on a demonstration team at Fort Bragg.  V.L. was a proud veteran and was an active member of the Homer Magee Post 113 of the American Legion.  He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, while also volunteering to coach Little League for many years.

He was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where he sang in the Sanctuary Choir then later as a member of the Senior Singers.  V.L. was a deacon of his church for 35 years before currently serving as Deacon Emeritus.  He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and recently liked looking out behind his home at the frequent wildlife nearby.  V.L. was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, and he had a special place in his heart for babies and his youngest new family members.

He is survived by, his wife of 61 years, Delora Davis Bridges of Franklinton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Malinda and Danny Harris, Patricia and Jon Gonzales all of Franklinton; six grandchildren and spouses:  Dana Harris, Christina Bullock both of Franklinton, Daniel and Mandy Harris of Foxworth, MS,
Leighton and Danielle Gonzales of Franklinton, Haylie and Ray McCarrol of Albany, Hanna Gonzales of Franklinton; great-grandchildren: Autumn Bullock, Natalee Harris, Logan Gonzales, Lana Gonzales, Lora Gonzales, Brenton McCarroll; step-great-grandchildren: Haley Haddox, Hunter Haddox, Presley Haddox; an expected great-grandson Parker Harris and an additional expected great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil L. Bridges and Minnie Smith Bridges, twin infant grandsons and an infant granddaughter Loren Marion Marie Gonzales, 7 brothers, 2 sisters and his father in law and mother in law Edgar E. Davis and Malinda Davis.

Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home Sunday January 17th from 10 am until 2 pm.  A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Paul Watts and Rev. Dale Parker officiating.  Burial followed in the Ellis Cemetery.

Betty Robbins Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Robbins were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Society Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Young officiating. Interment followed in the Society Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Robbins, age 75, entered into the eternal rest of her Lord early Saturday morning, July 13, 2024, at the Forrest General Hospital. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements. The Robbins family received friends one hour before the funeral service, beginning at noon, Tuesday, at Society Hill Baptist Church. Pallbearers included Kelley LeNormand, Cymantha Shellenberger, Mason Robbins, Jenna Robbins, Frank Vice and Frank Vice Jr. Betty Robbins was born on June 6, 1949, in Magee, Mississippi to Walter R. and Margaret Jones Bishop. Mrs. Robbins was a long-time resident of Carson. She and her husband would go on to raise a happy family of six children that would multiply over the years with the addition of in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Robbins loved the country life and will be remembered for not only growing a yard full of beautiful flowers, but also a vegetable garden of which she fed her family. An animal lover, she also had dogs, chickens and hogs over the years. Mrs. Robbins was a member of Society Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Margaret Bishop, her husband, Kenneth Terrell Robbins Sr; her daughter, Pamela Robbins; sisters, Patsy Holden, Margaret  Coble, Linda Hester and her brother, Richard Bishop. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Billie Jo Williamson of Prentiss; sons, Kenny Robbins Jr. (Kathy) of Carson, Mikell Robbins (Kelley) of Palestine, Texas, John Robbins (Nicole) of Sumrall, Daniel Robbins, (Tanya) of Ft. Worth, Texas; brother, Ray Bishop (Nancy) of Magee and her sister, Myrtis Craig (Ed) of Rossville, Georgia. Mrs. Robbins also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
