Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Point Pleasant M. B. Church, Mt. Olive, Mississippi for Mrs. Evelyn Funchess Gray, 88, who died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at her residence.  Rev. Erskin Magee officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Evelyn Funchess Gray was born to the late Jap and Ollie Dixon Funchess in the Mt. Zion community of Prentiss. She received her education from Mt. Zion school and Prentiss Institute.  Mrs. Gray joined Mt. Zion M. B. Church at an early age where she worshiped and served until she met and married William T. (Dub) Gray.  Two daughters were born to this union. After marriage, she moved to the Point Pleasant community and joined Point Pleasant M. B. Church and served until her health failed her.

She was employed with Lincoln Attendance Center, Oakley Training School, MagneTek, Simpson County Schools and private nursing.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, one sister and four brothers.

She is survived by: Bonnie (Woodie) Woods and Sandra Gray; grandsons, Leonid and Leedrick Woods and Bjorn Gray; 5 great grandchildren; one sister, Bessie Odum; two brothers, Robert and Jessie Funchess; 2 sisters-in-law, Lola Mae Gray and Ada Gray Joshua.
