Shooting at the Western Motel leaves one dead, one injured

At approximately 11:35 p.m. February 3, 2016, the Prentiss Police Department received a call reporting shots fired at  the Western Motel on Columbia Avenue in Prentiss.

When authorities arrived, they found one victim suffering from an apparent gun shot wound lying next to a motel room.

He was identified as Jhyrod Finch, from Atlanta, GA.

Finch was sent to Forrest General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

Another victim was found dead inside of a motel room.

According to Prentiss Police Chief Joe Bullock, Finch identified the deceased as his cousin, Marquis Porter from Atlanta, GA.

Porter died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived, but was believed to have been injured in the exchange of gunfire.

The Prentiss Police Department was assisted by the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department and believe the crimes to be narcotic related.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Prentiss Police Department are further investigating the incident.
