William Mack Davis, Jr.

William Mack Davis, Jr., age 85, died Friday, February 12, 2016 in Hattiesburg. He was a native of Jefferson Davis County and a resident of Foxworth, MS.

After graduating from Bassfield High School, Mr. Davis attended Pearl River Community College and Mississippi State University, where he achieved a master’s degree in education. He taught at Morgantown School, Hub High School, and Carl Loftin Vocational-Technical Center. In 1992, Mr. Davis was elected Superintendent of Education in Marion County and served until 1996. He retired after 45 years as an educator. Mr. Davis was an active member of Holly Springs Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon.

Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents, William Mack Davis, Sr. and Elizabeth Bell Hill Davis; and all of his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Hollie Lee Davis; a daughter, Rebecca Davis; two sons, William Mack Davis, III and wife Daphne, and Nelson Raymond Davis; five grandchildren, Sarah Davis, Rose Davis, Jonathan Neal Davis and wife Sarah, Hollie Amanda Pittman and husband Jeremy, and Rachel Elizabeth Jones and husband Brandon; and three great-grandchildren, Claire Davis, William Davis, and Peyton Jones.

Funeral services were held at 2:00pm in the chapel of Colonial Funeral Home on Monday, February 15, 2016 with Rev. David Nichols officiating.  Visitation was from 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment was in Holly Springs Cemetery in Foxworth.

In lieu of flowers, family prefers memorial donations to Gideon’s International or a favorite charity of one’s choice.
