JEJE launches reading initiative

J.E. Johnsons Elementary School’s second graders recently visited Prentiss Public Library.

The visit is a part of a new reading initiative the school has launched. Twice a month, all JEJE students will visit the public library.
Although the school has a library, the school’s principal Carrie Hammond-Walker feels partnering with the public library will double the amount of books the students can have access to at school and home.

She believes that one major key to academic success is to increase the amount of reading a child does on a daily basis.
Hammond-Walker asks that all JEJE parents make sure their child has a valid Prentiss Public Library Card. Only those with cards can check out books during the visits.
