Tran wins JDC district spelling bee

Jefferson Davis County School District hosted the 2016 District-Wide Spelling Bee at Bassfield High School Auditorium on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 9:00 am.

Students in 4th – 8th grade from Carver Elementary, JE Johnson Elementary, Bassfield High, Prentiss High, and Prentiss Christian had the opportunity to participate in this annual event.

Retired educators, Mrs. Rosie Powell, Mrs. Billie Jean Page, and Mrs. Shirley Lewis served as judges.  Jefferson Davis County School District’s Behavior Specialist, Ms. Margaret Wallace, served as the announcer.

Jefferson Davis County School District’s Case Manager, Ms. Mattie Lewis served as the record keeper, and Special Projects Coordinator, Mrs. Chellie Payne, served as coordinator for the district, in conjunction with, the Director of Curriculum, Ms. Devonshae Harrien.

The overall winner of the 2016 District-Wide Spelling Bee was 5th grade Prentiss Christian student, Adriana Tran. She won in the 27th round with the final word, alternate.

The second place winner was Prentiss High School 8th grade student, Daija Warner, and the third place winner was Carver Elementary 6th grade student, Nicholas Thompson.

Adriana Tran will represent Jefferson Davis County in the MS Association of Educators 2016 State-Wide Spelling Bee on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the MS Public Broadcast Center at 10:00 am.
