Several honored at monthly school board meeting

The Jefferson Davis County School Board held its monthly meeting on March 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Dennis W. Fortenberry Vocational Center in Carson.
During this session, there were several recognitions/highlights for outstanding achievement.
The first highlight of the evening was the Prentiss High School Bulldog Basketball Team. Coach Morgan presented his team and reviewed their winning season and their battle at the state championship.
The board president, Rev. Jessie Holloway, presented a brief statement of support and recognition which included a luncheon in honor of all basketball players and cheerleaders from each high school for their accomplishments.
The second highlight of the evening was the recognition of a district bus driver that exhibited careful driving practices, student seating while bus in motion, proper use of signals, following state and district guidelines on speed, as well as timeliness.
This driver was Eloise Barnes of Bassfield.
The final highlight of the evening was the recognition of our Chief Financial Officer, Sheila Copeland, and our business department and department chairs, Cammie Reese, Cindy Daley, and Dr. Subrina Mason, for receiving a clear audit.
The audit review was accompanied by a letter from the Attorney General of the State of Mississippi along with a Certificate of Recognition for no violations or negative findings in the processing and receipting of purchases and operations.
The school board was informed of the final events in Education Awareness Month, which are as follows: Grandparent’s Day for the Elementary Schools will be March 24 and for the high schools on March 29. Please contact your school for more information.
The District Art Presentation, through the performance arts division, for all students will be March 30, 2016; the Education Awareness Luncheon will be March 31 at 11 a.m. at G. W. Carver Elementary in the Willis C. Graves Gymnasium.
