Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Oak Ridge M. B. Church, New Hebron, Mississippi for Mrs. Catherine Smith, 87, who died Monday, May 2, 2016 at her residence.  Rev. Eric Dixon officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Catherine Smith was born to the late Walter Newsome and Lula Berry.  She joined Oak Ridge M. B. Church at an early age.  She served on the mission, choir treasurer, and announcer.  She attended Rose Hill School and later attended Lily Hill School.  She was married to the late J. C. Smith, four children were born to this union.

She was preceded in death by: threesiblings, O. L. Newsome, Frank Newsome, Lula M. Newsome and one great grandchild.

She is survived by: two sons, Earl (Shirley) Smith of Georgetown, MS, Woodra (Zenobia) Smith of New Hebron, MS; two daughters, Earnestine (C.H.) Walker of Pinola, MS and Carolyn McDuffey of New Hebron, MS; one stepson, Harold (Shirley) Walker of New Hebron, MS; one brother, Carsie Newsome of Pinola, MS; four sisters, Evelyn (Howard) Magee of Jackson, MS, Ora (Willie) Sherman of D’Lo, MS, Jeanette (Dewitt) McDuffey of Brooklyn, NY and Dorothy Newsome of Brooklyn, NY and special friend, Mildred Price of Mt. Olive, MS; 8 grandchilden; 21 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
