Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Palestine M. B.Church, Oakvale, Mississippi for Mr. Joe Dale Fortenberry, 76, who died Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Lawrence County Hospital, Monticello, MS.  Rev. Johnny Culver officiated with interment following in the church cemetery.  Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joe Dale Fortenberry was born to the late Ernest and Maryetta Fortenberry in Oakvale, MS.  He joined Palestine M. B. Church at an early age and remained a member until his death.

He was married to Mrs. Joyce Lott Fortenberry and was formerly employed by Hercules Stump Plant and later became self-employed as a logger.

He was preceded in death by:sister, Helen Sherman, brothers, Alvin, Armstead Jean, and James Fortenberry; grandchildren, Tevin May and Miranda Devoe.

He is survived by: children, Jerry (Darren) Sanders of Charlotte, NC, Onett Lott, Sarah Fortenberry, Wardell (Carolyn) Fortenberry, Melissa (Donald) Weathersby, Ron Fortenberry, Joe (Tammy) Fortenberry all of Oakvale, MS; Dale (Lisa) Fortenberry of Silver Creek, MS; Larry (Cheryl) Stringer of Laurel, MS; siblings, Blanche Fortenberry of Indianapolis, IN, Elvetta (David) Burroughs of Merriville, IN, Ernest Fortenberry, Jr. of Kansas City, KS; godchildren, Lewis Rogers, Dela Warner, LaKesha Quarels and Jamekia Rogers; many other relatives and friends.
